City High Point Guard Nkumu Commits to Marquette

One of the top playmakers in the state has found her future home.
City High senior point guard Rose Nkumu gave a verbal commitment to Marquette University of Friday announcing her decision via Twitter.
“I am extremely excited and happy to announce that I am 100% committed to (head coach Megan Duffy) and Marquette University!” Nkumu wrote.
Nkumu solidified herself as one of the top players in the state last season as a junior averaging a career-high 19 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field.
The 5-foot-8 point guard averaged 5.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.7 steals per game last season helping City High to a 19-3 record and a spot in the Class 5A quarterfinals.
Nkumu teamed with fellow senior and Iowa State commit Aubrey Joens to give City High the highest scoring duo in the state last season averaging a combined 42 points per game.
A three-year starter, Nkumu has helped City High to a 66-6 record and three straight state tournament appearances during her prep career.
The team leader in assists the past two seasons, Nkumu took on a bigger scoring role as a junior scoring 20 or more points 13 times while upping her scoring average by nearly six points per game.
Nkumu was a second-team Class 5A all-state selection each of the past two seasons by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and needs just 47 points to reach 1,000 for her career.
Marquette went 27-8 last season and won the Big East regular season going 15-3 in conference play.
The Golden Eagles reached the second round of the NCAA tournament falling to Texas A&M.
