Where: Bates Field, 7 p.m.

Last season: Bettendorf 21, City High 7

Player to watch: Bettendorf junior quarterback Cannon Davis (6-1, 195) completed 26-of-33 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-10 week-one win over Pleasant Valley.

Key stat: City High has averaged 6.7 yards per play or better in four consecutive games dating back to last season and the Little Hawks are averaging 491 yards per game and 8.6 yards per play during that stretch.

About the Bulldogs: Bettendorf was 4-5 last season and opened the year with a 27-10 win over rival Pleasant Valley.

The Bulldogs outgained Pleasant Valley 348 to 194 in the season opener holding the Spartans to 74 rushing yards on 2.2 yards per carry.

Senior Ben Whipple (5-8, 175) rushed for a team-high 53 yards and a touchdown last week and caught eight passes for 47 yards.

Senior Caleb Brown (6-2, 185) caught seven passes for 77 yards and a touchdown and senior Caden Gray (6-5, 200) had three receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Senio Wyatt Freking (6-2, 210) had 9.5 tackles and two tackles for loss and junior Connor Hill (5-9, 185) had 9.5 tackles with a tackle for loss.

Senior Iowa recruit Gavin Stecker (6-3, 215) had six tackles and senior Jimmy Bark (6-3, 230) had 3.5 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss.

About the Little Hawks: City High opened the season with a 30-29 loss at West High.

The Little Hawks racked up 493 yards of total offense in the loss to West High while averaging 6.7 yards per play.

Senior quarterback Jackson Grabinski (6-0, 205) completed 8-of-19 passes for 138 yards while junior Chris Kabaiza (5-11, 180) went 8-of-14 through the air for 165 yards.

Savion Miller (5-10, 200) rushed for 149 yards and four touchdowns and added a reception for eight yards.

Senior Chayse Newton (5-8, 160) caught 10 passes for 153 yards and junior Braden Bickford (6-3, 168) had three receptions for 134 yards.

Junior linebacker Marshall Sheldon (6-1, 195) had nine tackles with two tackles for loss and a sack and freshman Crosby Newton (5-9, 155) had six tackles with a tackle for loss.

Southeast Polk (1-0) at Liberty High (1-0)

Where: Liberty Stadium, 7 p.m.

Last season: Liberty High 38, Southeast Polk 20; Liberty High 31, Southeast Polk 28 (5A quarterfinal)

Player to watch: Southeast Polk senior running back Stanley Cooper (6-0,222) rushed for 286 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 14.3 yards per carry in a 56-25 season-opening win over Ankeny Centennial.

Key stat: This will be the third meeting in the past two seasons between the two teams after Liberty High defeated Southeast Polk 38-20 in Runnells in week two last season and won 31-28 in the 5A quarterfinals in North Liberty.

About the Rams: Southeast Polk went 6-5 last season falling to Liberty High 31-28 in the 5A quarterfinals.
The Rams opened the season with a 56-25 win over Ankeny Centennial racking up 426 rushing yards while averaging 11.8 yards per carry.

Junior Adrian Cooper (6-1, 204) ran for 90 yards and two touchdowns and Josh Enrich (5-8, 180) added 49 yards and a touchdown in the week-one win.

Junior quarterback Boston Bailey (5-10, 185) completed 8-of-11 passes for 44 yards and a touchdown in week one with Brennan Swanson (6-0, 170) making four catches for 30 yards.

Senior Reid Thompson (6-0, 170) led Southeast Polk with six tackles last week while Joel Yankoon (6-3, 270) and Cooper Chebuhar (6-3, 230) each had four tackles and a sack.

About the Lightning: Liberty High opened the Mitch Wieland era with a 21-7 win at Cedar Falls last week.

The Lightning had 450 yards of total offense and averaged 6.3 yards per play in the season opening win while holding the Tigers to 214 total yards.

Senior quarterback Emerson Berner completed 20-of-29 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns in the opener and also rushed for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Brody Beaver rushed for 78 yards and caught five passes for 48 yards while Carter Lester rushed for 40 yards.

Senior Pryor Reiners had a team-high 10 receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns and senior Adrian Clerry caught three passes for 43 yards.

Junior Asher Eisenbach led Liberty High with six tackles including two for loss and a sack and senior Hank Thompson had 5.5 tackles with three for loss and two sacks.

Liberty High had 14.5 tackles for loss including five sacks in the week one win.

West High (1-0) at Dubuque Hempstead (0-1)

Where: Dalzell Field, 7:15 p.m.

Last season: West High 56, Dubuque Hempstead 7

Player to watch: Dubuque Hempstead junior quarterback Braylon Walker (6-0, 170) completed 18-of-24 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns in the season-opening loss to Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

Key stat: Dubuque Wahlert was outscored 42-0 in the second half in a season-opening loss to Cedar Rapids Kennedy while West High outscored City High 30-13 in the second half of a 30-29 win over the Little Hawks last Friday.

About the Trojans: West High scored 30 points in the second half on its way to a 30-29 season-opening win over rival City High.

The Trojans rolled up 378 yards of total offense in the opener behind senior quarterback Reece Wheeler (5-11, 170) who passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 23 yards and a touchdown.

Junior Atari Brown (5-11, 170) ran for 68 yards on 23 carries and caught three passes for 16 yards and Neil James (6-1, 180) caught five passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

Cade Towler (5-11, 170) caught four passes for 74 yards and Tayten Wheeler (6-2, 195) had four receptions for 27 yards.

Senior defensive back Carter Spark (5-10, 175) had a team-high 10.5 tackles with nine solo stops and Khylin Brink (6-0, 210) had 7.5 tackles while Ashten Holmes (6-1, 210) had 7.5 tackles with 1.5 sacks.

About the Mustangs: Dubuque Hempstead was 3-6 last season and dropped its season opener at Cedar Rapids Kennedy 49-13 last Thursday.

The Mustangs led Cedar Rapids Kennedy 13-7 at the half but were outscored 42-0 over the final two quarters in the season-opening loss.

Walker leads a Mustang offense that put up 259 yards of total offense in the opener.

Junior Landon Klotz (5-11, 165) had seven receptions for 80 yards while junior Waylon Daughetee (6-0, 185) had four catches for 61 yards and a touchdown and sophomore Daniel Houselog (5-10, 170) caught three passes for 78 yards and a touchdown.

Junior Maddox Milner (6-0, 165) had a team-high seven tackles including a tackle for loss and senior Eli Curry (5-9, 160) had four tackles with half a tackle for loss.

Davenport North (1-0) at Clear Creek Amana (1-0)  

Where: Clipper Field, 7:30 p.m.

Last season: Clear Creek Amana 51, Davenport North 6

Player to watch: Davenport North sophomore quarterback Jett Sheedy (5-7, 145) completed 9-of-17 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for nine yards and a touchdown in a 36-0 win over Muscatine.

Key stat: Clear Creek Amana averaged 10.8 yards per play in a 59-0 win over Davenport West in its season opener.

About the Clippers: Clear Creek Amana opened the season with a 59-0 win at Davenport West, its second consecutive shutout dating back to last season.

Junior quarterback Texton Bollers (6-2, 180) completed 7-of-9 passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown in the opener.

Ian Kelley (5-8, 195) rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns and Tay Seals (5-10, 145) caught two passes for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Jonah Drake (5-8, 165) caught two passes for 19 yards and Myles Howell (6-2, 200) had a 21-yard touchdown reception.

Senior Joe Vakse (6-2, 196) had four tackles in the opener to lead Clear Creek Amana while Nolan Dao (6-1, 195) had three tackles with a tackle for loss.

About the Wildcats: Davenport North is coming off a 6-4 last season that ended with a 17-14 loss to eventual 4A runner-up Pella in opening round of 4A playoffs.

The Wildcats opened the season with an impressive 36-0 shutout of Muscatine which was the fourth shutout in the last nine games for Davenport North dating back to last season.

Davenport North allowed just 229 yards of total offense, including just 73 rushing yards on 2.4 yards per carry and forced three turnovers in its season-opening win.

Sophomore Isaac Holloway (5-10, 150) rushed for a team-high 46 yards in the opener while senior Donovan Holloway (6-1, 180) and sophomore Matthias Thornburg (5-8, 156) each added touchdown runs.

Senior Maleiki Mckern (6-2, 186) had three receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown and sophomore Jathan Tharp (5-8, 140) caught two passes for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Senior Peyton Malloy (5-9, 150) had a team-high 6.5 tackles, senior Newell Yates (5-11, 120) had five tackles and Isaac Holloway had four tackles for loss and two sacks.

Williamsburg (1-0) at Solon (1-0)

Where: Spartan Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

Last season: Solon 33, Williamsburg 14

Player to watch: Williamsburg senior running back Dallin Sullivan (5-7, 170) rushed for a team-high 406 yards and five touchdowns last season and ran for 143 yards and four touchdowns in a season-opening win over Keokuk.

Key stat: Solon senior quarterback Maddox Kelley averaged 27 yards per carry and scored touchdowns on four of seven rushing attempts in a week-one win at Davenport Assumption.

About the Spartans: Solon extended its regular season winning streak to 12 with a 48-14 win at Davenport Assumption last week.

Solon rushed for 292 yards and averaged 13.9 yards per carry while racking up 468 total yards in the season-opener.

Kelley (5-10, 185) passed for 166 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns in the season-opening win.

Jackson Burk (5-8, 180) rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown and Kaden Hoeper (6-2, 190) caught three passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Cody Milliman (6-2, 200) added three receptions for 65 yards.

Lucas Feuerbach (6-2, 260) led Solon with 7.5 tackles with a tackle for loss and Simon Einwalter (6-3, 215) had six tackles with a tackle for loss.

About the Raiders: Williamsburg was 5-4 last season and opened the year with a 56-14 win over Keokuk.

The Raiders had 272 yards of total offense in the week-one win led by junior quarterback Cash Brown (6-0, 160) who completed 6-of-16 passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

Noah Banos (6-1, 175) caught a 42-yard touchdown pass for the raiders and senior Kale Bailey (6-2, 175) had two receptions for 21 yards and a touchdown.

Williamsburg forced four turnovers in the season-opening win over Keokuk as Gibson Scott (6-0, 170), Zakk DeWeese (6-2, 170) and Sawyer Kirby (5-10, 190) all had interceptions.

Banos led the Raiders with five tackles while Declan Stumpff (5-10, 175), Elias Schanz (6-2, 220) and Henry Long (6-3, 165) all had sacks for Williamsburg.

Regina (1-0) at West Branch (0-1)

Where: The Little Rose Bowl, 7 p.m.

Last season: Regina 28, West Branch 16

West Branch Player to watch: West Branch senior Keaton Gates (6-0, 180) rushed for 218 yards and two touchdowns and had a team-high 10.5 tackles including six solo stops in a week one loss at West Liberty.

Regina Player to watch: Regina junior Gabriel Hegelheimer (6-0, 205) rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown and also caught three passes for 50 yards and a touchdown in a week one win over Wilton.

Key stat: West Branch rushed for 277 yards and average 6.8 yards per carry in its season opener at West Liberty while Regina allowed just X rushing yards on X yards per carry in a week-one shutout of Wilton.

About the Bears: West Branch opened the season with a 26-21 loss at rival West Liberty.

Junior quarterback Dillan Schenkel passed for 25 yards and rushed for 47 yards in the season-opening loss.

Senior Keaton Gates rushed for 218 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 9.1 yards per carry and also had a team-high 10.5 tackles with six solo stops.

Sophomore Brooks Seydel had two receptions for 20 yards and freshman Teddy Bucknell rushed for 14 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore linebacker Motley Johnston had 10 tackles with seven solo stops and sophomore Daiveon Kriegel and Seydel each had four tackles.

About the Regals Regina posted its third shutout in its last seven games dating back to last season with a 36-0 win over Wilton in the opener.

Regina rolled up 418 total yards in the week-one win while holding Wilton to 155 yards of total offense.

Regina junior quarterbacks Aiden Gaffey (6-3, 170) and Zach Poe (6-1, 190) combined to complete 19-of-25 passes for 212 yards and each had touchdown passes in the win.

Four different Regina receivers had at least three receptions led by Tate Wallace (6-4, 240) with five receptions for 22 yards while Holt Hinkel (5-11, 145) had three catches for 51 yards, Gabe Hegelheimer (6-0, 205) had three catches for 50 yards and a touchdown and Ryan Tracy (6-1, 170) had three receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Hegelheimer rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown and Wallace ran for 26 yards and two touchdowns.

Wallace had a team-high five tackles with a tackle for loss while Roan Eckhoff (6-2, 225) had 4.5 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
