Softball Roundup: 5A No. 14 Liberty High Sweeps CR Jefferson in Top-15 Doubleheader

Class 5A No. 14 Liberty High won a pair of one-run games to sweep No. 15 Cedar Rapids Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division doubleheader on Thursday in Cedar Rapids.
Liberty High won the opener 4-3 and took the nightcap 5-4 to improve to 20-13 on the season while Cedar Rapids Jefferson dropped to 20-16.
Ella Wetjen earned the win for Liberty High in the opener allowing three runs on four hits while walking four in seven innings.
Kelsey Kaut went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in a run and scored a run for Liberty High while Haileigh Smith had two hits and drove in two runs.
Haley Schroeder had two hits and scored a run while Mischa Reiners had a hit and drove in a run.
Kinley Jones doubled and scored a run and Ella Kate Fort had a hit and scored a run in game one.
McKenna Kelley tossed three strong innings of relief to earn the save in game two allowing two uneared runs on two hits.
Smith started and earned the win allowing three runs on five hits in four innings.
Kaut had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run and Ava Tague had two hits.
Brynlee Slockett had a hit, Schroeder doubled and scored two runs and Smith and Jones each scored once.
