Liberty High Senior Quarterback Rettig Commits to Wisconsin-La Crosse

One of the top quarterbacks in the state has settled on a football future.
Liberty High senior Reece Rettig announced his commitment to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a post on social media.
“Can’t thank my coaches enough for getting me to where I am,” Rettig wrote on a post on X. “Thank you to the whole Liberty community for the support of our team. Any mostly thank you to my parents for everything they have done. Forever grateful and can’t wait for the next step.”
Rettig led Liberty High to new heights the past two seasons directing the Lightning to a 21-4 record as a starter and the first two Class 5A semifinal appearances in program history.
As a senior Rettig was named the Class 5A player of the year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association after directing the Lightning to a 10-2 record and a Class 5A runner-up finish.
In his two seasons leading the Liberty High offense Rettig accounted for 6,574 total yards and 74 touchdowns.
Last season Rettig led Class 5A in total touchdowns (36), total yards (3,372) and completions (239) and ranked third in passing yards (2,465).
Rettig completed 71 percent of his passes as a senior last fall, throwing for 2,465 yards and 22 touchdowns.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Rettig also rushed for a team-high 908 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.
In his career, Rettig completed 72 percent of his passes while passing for 5,184 yards and 54 touchdowns and rushed for 1,390 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Wisconsin-La Crosse went 8-3 last season falling in the third round of the Division III playoffs
