Softball Roundup: 5A No. 14 Liberty High Splits Top-15 Doubleheader With Eighth-ranked Western Dubuque

Class 5A No. 14 Liberty High Liberty High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with 4A eighth-ranked Western Dubuque on Wednesday in North Liberty winning the opener 9-6 and dropping the nightcap 3-2.
Liberty High moved to 18-13 on the season with the doubleheader split while Western Dubuque now sits at 23-9.
Haileigh Smith earned the win for Liberty High in the opener allowing six runs, five earned, on 10 hits while striking out four and walking one.
Ava Tague went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead Liberty High in the opener while Mischa Reiners had a hit and drove in three runs.
Brynlee Slockett had a hit, walked three times, drove in a run and scored four runs for the Lightning and Smith and Kelsey Kaut each scored twice.
Haley Schroeder had a hit and scored a run in game one.
McKenna Kelley took the loss in game two allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out two and walking four.
Kaut was 2-for-3 with two doubles and Slockett had a double and drove in a run for the Lightning.
Smith had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run and Reiners and Kinley Jones each added a hit.
