Softball Roundup: Class 5A No. 14 Liberty High Sweeps Cedar Rapids Kennedy

Class 4A No. 14 Liberty High scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning in both games to sweep Cedar Rapids Kennedy in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional doubleheader on Thursday in North Liberty.
Liberty High won the opener 2-1 when Haley Schroeder plated the winning run with a double and rallied for a 4-3 win in the nightcap on a game-winning Kelsey Kaut double.
The Lightning improved to 17-10 on the season with the sweep and pushed their winning streak to five in a row.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy dropped to 15-15 with the two losses.
Schroeder was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the opener while Haileigh Smith went 2-for-3 and scored a run to lead Liberty High.
Mischa Reiners had a double and drove in a run.
Kaelyn Rickels earned the win for the Lightning allowing one run on nine hits while striking out three and walking one.
Smith earned the win in the nightcap allowing three runs on 10 hits while striking out three and walking one.
Kaut was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in game two while Ava Tague had a hit and drove in two runs.
Lucy Maassen and Schroeder had a hit and scored a run for Liberty High in game two.
