Softball Roundup: Liberty High Splits Doubleheader With Cedar Rapids Kennedy

Class 5A No. 12 Liberty High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Cedar Rapids Kennedy on Thursday dropping the opener 13-11 and winning the nightcap 1-0.
Liberty High improved to 23-8 and 16-5 with the win in game two while Cedar Rapids Kennedy moved to 18-12 on the season and 16-8 in MVC play.
Kennedy scored all 13 runs over the final three innings in the opener, overcoming an early 3-0 deficit.
Haileigh Smith had two hits and drove in three runs for Liberty High in game one while Brynlee Slockett was 2-for-3 with four runs scored.
Kennedy Daugherty had two hits, drove in a run and scored twice and Lucy Massen, Mischa Reinders and Kinsley Robertson each had a hit and drove in two runs.
Haley Schroeder had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run and Ella McLaughlin had a hit and scored two runs.
Daugherty tossed a two-hit shutout in the nightcap as the Lightning earned the split.
The senior right-hander struck out four and walked and also had a hit and drove in the only run of the game.
Schroeder had a hit and scored a run and McLaughlin added a hit for the Lightning.
