Softball Roundup: Liberty High Splits Doubleheader With Cedar Rapids Jefferson

Class 5A No. 10 Liberty High split a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional doubleheader with Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Wednesday in Cedar Rapids dropping the opener 3-2 before winning the nightcap 13-1.
Liberty High improved to 22-7 on the season and 15-4 with the doubleheader split while Cedar Rapids Jefferson moved to 11-17 and 8-12.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson snapped a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on its way to a 3-2 win in the opener.
Mallory Jones hit a two-run home run to lead Liberty High while Kinsley Robertson had a hit and scored a run and Brynlee Slockett went 2-for-4.
Mischa Reiners and Kennedy Daugherty each added hits in the opener.
Robertson took the loss in game one allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six and walking three.
Liberty High exploded for 22 hits in game two scoring runs in each of the final four innings.
Reiners led the way going 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored while Haley Schroeder went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Robertson was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI and Lucy Maassen was 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and a run scored.
Slockett had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run and Haileigh Smith had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run.
Daugherty had two hits, scored three runs and drove in a run and also earned the win allowing one run on five hits while walking three.
Jones had a hit and scored a run and Ella McLaughlin went 2-or-4 with an RBI.
