Liberty High remained red-hot and kept pace with Linn-Mar in the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division race with a doubleheader sweep of Class 5A No. 13 Cedar Rapids Prairie on Tuesday in Cedar Rapids.

5A No. 10 Liberty High took the opener 8-2 and got a one-hit shutout from Kennedy Daugherty in a 5-0 win in the nightcap while improving to 19-3 on the season and 13-1 in MVC play.

The Lightning are tied with fifth-ranked Linn-Mar atop the Mississippi Division standings.

Cedar Rapids Prairie dropped to 13-7 on the season and 9-3 in conference play with the losses.

Mischa Reiners led Liberty High with three hits in the opener as the Lightning scored three runs in the top of the first and put the game out of reach with five more runs in the fourth.

Reiners had a double, drove in a run and scored a run.

Brynlee Slockett had a hit, drove in two runs and scored a run in the opener while Haley Schroeder was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Haileigh Smith had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run and Daugherty doubled and drove in a run.

Kinsley Robertson earned the win allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six and walking seven in a complete game.

Robertson also had a hit and drove in two runs.

Daugherty fanned six and walked four in a one-hit shutout and also had a double and scored a run in the nightcap.

Reiners went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and Smith had three hits, two RBI and scored a run.

Slockett had two hits and scored twice, Robertson had a hit and drove in two and Ella McLaughlin had a hit and scored a run.
