Liberty High won nine events on its way to claiming the team title at its own Liberty Lightning Invitational on Monday evening in North Liberty.

Luke Meyers won a pair of individual titles sweeping the short spring events and the Lightning won five relay titles while racking up 209 team points to finish 54 in front of runner-up New London.

West High was third with 109 points followed by Cedar Rapids Xavier with 99.

Meyers was impressive while winning the 100 in a time of 10.91 and adding a title in the 200 in 22.2.

The senior was also a member of the Liberty High 4×100 relay team that won in 44.57.

Gavin Keeney won the 400 in 53.67 and Maxwell Thompson added a title in the 400 hurdles in 59.48 for the Lightning.

Liberty High won the distance medley, shuttle hurdle, 4×200 and 4×400 relays to go with its win in the 4×100.

The distance medley team of Garrett Gregoire, Ian Covarrubias, Tyson Baker and Nathan Kinzer won in 3:59.17 and the winning shuttle hurdle team of Fischer Dykstra, James Eckhardt, Henry Maassen and Thompson clocked a 1:11.17.

Trey Gregoire, Lucas Meyer, Amari Thigpen and Ja’Quez Hall teamed up to win the 4×200 in a time of 1:35.88 and the foursome of Jordan Robinson, Jack Abel, Aidan Decker and Christian Montover won the 4×400 in 3:44.61.

Will Towler finished runner-up in both the shot put and the discus to lead West High.

Towler was second with a mark of 117-7 in the discus and was runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 44-1.
