Volleyball Roundup: Top-ranked Liberty High Impressive While Winning Home Hy-Vee Invitational

Liberty High returned to the top of the Class 5A volleyball rankings earlier this month after one week out of the top spot.
The Lightning certainly lived up to their number one ranking on Saturday.
Top-ranked Liberty High went unbeaten in five matches against top-11 ranked opponents on Saturday to win the Liberty-Mount Vernon Hy-Vee Classic on Saturday in North Liberty.
Liberty High dropped just one set on Saturday while posting wins over four teams ranked in the top seven of their respective classes.
The Lightning swept Class 5A fifth-ranked West Des Moines Valley (22-20, 23-21), second-ranked Pleasant Valley (21-17, 21-13), 2A top-ranked Dike-New Hartford (21-11, 21-16) and 3A seventh-ranked Mount Vernon (21-17, 21-16).
Liberty High also added a 21-5, 20-22, 15-12 win over 5A No. 11 West High.
The Lightning improved to 22-3 on the season with the five wins on Saturday and stretched their winning streak to 14.
Liberty High is now 16-3 this season against ranked opponents.
Cassidy Hartman led Liberty High with 42 kills, 46 digs and eight blocks while Shelby Kimm added 28 kills and 46 digs.
Lilah VanScoyoc had 19 kills and four blocks for the Lightning while Sam Harvey had 18 kills and Asta Hildebrand had 16 kills.
Hildebrand had 49 assists and 14 digs while Mariah Rollins had 67 assists and 35 digs.
Gabbie Schroeder had 43 digs and Kimm had eight ace serves for the Lightning.
