Baseball Roundup: Liberty High Splits With Seventh-ranked Dubuque Hempstead

Liberty High split a doubleheader with Class 4A seventh-ranked Dubuque Hempstead on Monday in North Liberty winning the opener 12-5 and dropping the nightcap 8-2.
With the split Liberty High moved to 14-8 on the season and 11-7 in Mississippi Valley Conference play while Dubuque Hempstead now sits at 17-4 and 13-3 in conference games.
Ethan O’Donnell earned the win in the opener allowing five runs on five hits while striking out seven and walking five in 4 1/3 innings.
Jack Turgasen struck out six in 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Lightning.
Liberty High hammered 12 hits in game one led by Keian Secrist who went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs.
Luke Meyers was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored and Noah Kirk went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Cody Schroeder went 2-for-5 with two RBI, Brody Fishman had a hit and scored two runs and Jack Funke had a hit and drove in two runs.
Kirk took the loss in the nightcap allowing eight runs on eight hits while striking out four in 5 1/3.
Fishman went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Meyers had a hit and scored a run and Secrist had a double and an RBI.
