Solon Stays Perfect With Shutout of Benton Community

Despite only having the ball for 12 of the 48 minutes Friday night Class 3A top-ranked Solon cruised to a 39-0 shutout of WaMac conference rival Benton in their final non-district game.
The Bobcats controlled the ball for 36 minutes and ran 23 more offensive plays the Spartans but couldn’t get into the end zone against a tough Solon defense, led by senior linemen Jacob Feuerbach and James Thomsen.
Feuerbach was involved in a team high 15 tackles (6 solo).
Thomsen was in on 8 tackles, while juniors Wyatt Young and AJ Haege took part in eight and seven tackles respectively.
Young and Haege also each had fumble recoveries.
The Bobcats’ opening possession was a 15-play, 8-minute drive down to the Spartan 9-yard line which resulted in a missed field goal.
The Spartans would only take 1:21 to go 80 yards for the opening score, a 20-yard pass from Maddox Kelley to Kaden Hoeper.
On the Bobcats’ next play from scrimmage, an errant handoff was recovered by Haege on the Bobcat 26.
Ten seconds later, Kelley connected with Cody Milliman for another touchdown to make it 14-0.
Kelley and Hoeper would connect for another 27-yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter to extend the lead to 21-0.
Collin McKie hammered home a 43-yard field goal as time expired to give the Spartans a 24-0 halftime lead.
The second half was all Solon. Kelley added a 4-yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter.
Ryder Laing hit Michael Bigelow for a 27-yard score in the 4th quarter to cap off the scoring for the Spartans.
