Class 3A second-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier swept Liberty High in a Mississippi Valley Conference cross-divisional doubleheader on Tuesday in Cedar Rapids.
Xavier won the opener 8-1 and took the nightcap 7-0 while improving to 9-2 on the season.
Liberty High dropped to 4-7 on the season with the losses.
Jack Funke and Jackson Khamphilanouvong each had singles in the opener for Liberty High as the Lightning were limited to two hits.
Hayden Vickroy took the loss for Liberty High allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking two in five innings.
Liberty High out-hit Xavier 9-6 in the nightcap but the Saints came up with the key hits to complete the sweep.
Luke Meyers went 3-for-4 to lead Liberty High while Funke went 2-for-4 with a double.
Vickroy had two hits and Khamphilanouvong and Evan Chandler each added hits in the nightcap.
Jacob Turgasen took the loss allowing six runs, four earned, on five hits while striking out six in three innings.
