FORT DODGE – The state meet debut for Alie Seidl came last season by herself as an individual qualifier.
Seidl returned to the state meet with her teammates on Saturday and the company made all the difference in the world for the Clear Creek Amana sophomore.
In her second consecutive appearance at the state meet, Seidl snagged her first state medal with a 15th place finish helping Clear Creek Amana place 11th as a team at the 3A state meet at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
“My girls are everything to me, last year it was really scary being a freshman and being alone and I think that definitely mentally contributed to a lot of the struggles that I had but they are what keeps me going, they are my strength when things get hard,” Seidl said. “I don’t even know what I would do without them.”
Last season Seidl did not finish in her state meet debut but made up for that disappointment on Saturday.
Seidl placed 15th in a time of 19:05.5 to help Clear Creek Amana finish 11th with 241 points in its first team appearance at state since 2023.
“I really needed some revenge on this meet because I didn’t finish here last year,” Seidl said. “So, it definitely feels good to move forward from that and I know I can move up from this.”
The experience that Seidl gained from qualifying for the state meet last season was key on Saturday.
Not only for Seidl but for her teammates who she attempted to prepare for the experience of running at state.
“I definitely think the experience from last year helped me,” Seidl said. “Talking to the girls before this I was just telling them there isn’t much that anyone can say to prepare for someone that is going to happen here. It’s like a tunnel, it’s really overwhelming so not getting caught up in that and just staying focused is really important.”
Freshman Keira Cooney joined Seidl in the top 25 placing 25th in a time of 19:25.
Keira Rosenberg finished 71st overall in 20:30.8, Holley Schulte was 108th in 21:21.7 and Myka Slaymaker was 112th in 21:25.3.
Freshman Maya McElliott finished 115th in a time of 21:28.7 and Kadence Whitmer placed 123rd in 21:52.7.
Pella won its fifth consecutive Class 3A team title with 34 points followed by Des Moines Christian with 127 and Williamsburg with 151.
