Class 5A seventh-ranked Liberty High edged No. 14 Cedar Rapids Prairie in a five-set thriller on Tuesday in the season opener for both teams in Cedar Rapids.

Liberty High improved to 1-0 in Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division contests with the 16-25, 25-22, 25-15, 19-25, 15-5 win.

Ellie Wilson led Liberty High with 15 kills and added 17 digs while Hadley Miller had 11 kills and 26 assists for the Lightning.

Brooklyn Wheeler had 10 kills, Sydney Van Heukelom had nine kills and Veda Smith had seven kills for Liberty High.

Norah Willey had 20 assists and six ace serves while Hailey Hegland had six blocks and Edie Miller had a team-high 23 digs and three ace serves.

Cedar Rapids Prairie was led by Baylee Whitehill with 16 kills and four blocks Olivia Marais with eight kills and four blocks.
