West High Falls to Waukee Northwest in Class 2A State Title Match

WAUKEE – An incredible season for West High came up one win short of state title.
Top-ranked Waukee Northwest claimed its third consecutive Class 2A state title on Wednesday with a 5-0 win over West High in the state title match at Waukee Northwest High School.
Waukee Northwest finished the season 12-0 while West High capped another impressive season with a 13-2 mark and the 17th state titles appearance in program history.
The 5-0 victory for Waukee Northwest was the third straight in three matches at the state tournament.
Waukee Northwest defeated West Des Moines Dowling 5-0 in the quarterfinals and added a 5-0 win over Pleasant Valley in the semifinals on Tuesday.
The Wolves swept the three doubles matches to open the state title match on Wednesday morning.
Marteen Beekhuis and Vincent Flynn defeated Ary Harwani and Pierce Hribar 6-1, 6-0 in number one doubles and Vivek Kothari and Thomas Wang downed Aaron Kang and Jensey Lin 6-2, 6-4 at number two doubles.
The Waukee Northwest tandem of Noah Tingley and Miles Steffensmeier edged the West High team of Matthew Dockery-Jackson and Prabhas Gupta 6-2, 6-7, 10-5 in the final doubles match.
Waukee Northwest got wins from Flynn at number two singles and Tingley at number five singles to secure the win.
The runner-up finish was the sixth all-time for West High in 17 trips to the state finals.
