Solon Junior Link, CCA Senior Malli Named WAMAC Divisional Players of the Year

Solon and Clear Creek Amana will both attempt to keep their postseason runs alive on Thursday when they compete in regional title matches.
On Wednesday both teams began to reap the benefits of strong regular seasons.
Clear Creek Amana and Solon each had eight players earn all-division honors when the WAMAC Conference released its postseason awards on Wednesday.
Solon junior Sophia Link was named East Division player of the year while Clear Creek Amana senior Kendyl Malli was tabbed as West Division player of the year.
Malli ranked second on the team with 12 goals and 33 points and led the Clippers with nine assists on her way to earning West Division player of the year honors.
Senior Lena Evans and junior Holley Shulte joined Malli on the West Division first team.
Evans led the Clippers with 22 goals and 52 points while ranking second on the team with eight assists.
Schulte had a goal and four assists while helping the Clippers to a 10-4-2 record.
Sophomores Keira Rosenberg, Eva Slaymaker and Hayden Coughenour all earned second-team all-West Division honors for Clear Creek Amana.
Slaymaker ranked third on the team with seven goals and added three assists.
Juniors Kennedi Cartier and Emma Karsten each earned honorable mentions honors for the Clippers.
Link was named East Division player of the year after helping the Spartans to a 14-3-1 record that included an 8-2-1 mark in WAMAC play.
Link led Solon with 22 goals, 12 assists and 56 points.
Joining Link on the East Division first team were seniors Delainey Durr and Sofia Ortega.
Ortega ranked second on the team with 14 goals and 11 assists and Durr had one goal and one assist for the Spartans.
Senior keeper Audrey Heineman, junior Laney Johnson and sophomore Ellie Durr all earned second team all-East Division honors.
Heineman allowed 14 goals and had 49 saves while posting a save percentage of 77.8 percent.
Johnson had five goals and ranked third on the team with six assists.
Junior Laeni Hinkle and sophomore Kinley Mai each earned honorable mention all-East Division honors for the Spartans.
