First Round Match to Watch
Regina junior Porter Shetler will be seeking his first state tournament win in his second consecutive appearance at the state meet.
Shetler (37-16) went 0-2 in his state meet debut last season at 215 pounds and will face Mount Ayr sophomore Cordell Clemens (37-19) in his opening-round match on Thursday.
Shetler has already surpassed his season win total from last season and is coming off a runner-up finish at the District 5 meet last week with a loss to fifth-ranked Kamdyn Kraklio of Durant in the title match.
Of the 16 losses for Shetler this season six have come to opponents ranked in the top eight in their class and seven addition losses have come to state qualifiers.
Wrestler to Watch
While his brother Porter Shetler made his state debut a year ago Simon Shetler secured his first trip to the state meet last week by winning the 285-pound title at the District 5 meet.
Shetler (40-13) will face Louisa-Muscatine senior Hayden Cantrell (41-14) in his opening-round match at the state meet on Thursday.
Shetler is the No. 14 seed and with an opening-round win would face third-seeded Keegan Long of Earlham in the second round.
Look for a strong state meet showing from Shetler who has seven consecutive wins entering the state tournament.
Weight Class to Watch
One of only five brackets in all three classes with two undefeated wrestlers the 190-pound bracket in Class 1A should be a blast to watch over the next several days.
Starmont senior Keaton Moeller (39-0) is top-ranked and joins Nodaway Valley junior Caleb Christensen (51-0) as unbeaten wrestlers in the 1A, 190-pound field.
The 150-pound champion two seasons ago as a sophomore, Moeller enters as the fifth seed in the 190-pound bracket.
Regina junior Dawson Boileau (45-12) will face Luke Malm (40-9) of GTRA in the opening round with the winner getting a second-round matchup with top-seed Ryan Wirtz of Emmetsburg.
A qualifier at 190 pounds last season Christensen is the second seed in a bracket that also features second-ranked Blake Myrtue of Ridge View, third-ranked Jackson Verschoor of Woodbury Central who was fifth at 190 pounds last season and fifth-ranked Lincoln Blickenderfer of Central Springs who was a 190-pound qualifier last season.

What to Watch in the Team Race
Don Bosco has won the last seven Class 1A titles and is a heavy favorite to add another title to its streak this season.
The Dons have a Class 1A-best 11 qualifiers that includes four returning state champions and six top-ranked wrestlers.
Last years second, third and fourth place finishers, Alburnett, Wilton and Osage, all moved up to Class 2A this season leaving an opening for teams to jump into the race for a top-three finish behind Don Bosco.
Jesup, Woodbury Central and Westwood appear to be the top teams poised to challenge for those spots.
Second-ranked Jesup matches perennial power and seventh-ranked Lisbon with nine qualifiers, second most among 1A teams while Woodbury Central has four of its five qualifiers ranked in the top six.
Third-ranked Westwood has six qualifiers including four ranked in the top five.
