A week after making its season debut in the Iowa High School Athletic Association football rankings West Branch moved up in the most recent set of rankings released on Monday afternoon.

West Branch moved up three spots from No. 10 to seventh in the Class 2A rankings following a 43-20 win at Bellevue in its regular season finale last Friday.

The rankings for Class 2A, 1A, A and eight-player are determined throughout the 2025 regular season by official rankings committees for each class.

The Bears are 6-2 on the season with losses to Class 1A third-ranked Regina (8-0) and Class 2A fifth-ranked Alburnett (6-2).

Regina was third in the Class 1A rankings for the fourth consecutive week.

Regina (8-0) remained third in Class 1A behind top-ranked West Lyon (8-0) and second-ranked Grundy Center (8-0) as the Class 1A rankings went unchanged from last week.

Other top-ranked teams in the first rankings of the season are Carroll Kuemper (8-0) in Class 2A, MMCRU (8-0) in Class A and Algona Garrigan (8-0) in 8-player.
