The 2024 cross country season was filled with strong efforts from Your Prep Sports area athletes and teams.
Three Your Prep Sports area teams qualified for the state meet in Fort Dodge with City High and Liberty High competing in the Class 4A meet and Clear Creek Amana in Class 3A.
The annual Your Prep Sports area cross country team is a way to honor area runners for their outstanding effort this season.
This year’s team features 11 highly-decorated runners from four different area schools.
Liberty High sophomore Keegan Decker is the captain of the 2024 Your Prep Sports area team after an impressive season that was capped a third-place finish at the 4A state meet.

Keegan Decker
Sophomore, Liberty High
Decker followed up an impressive debut campaign with a breakthrough sophomore season in which he secured his first state medal while establishing himself as one of the top runners in the entire state.
As a freshman Decker posted top-10 finishes at each of his final three meets before finishing 17th at the state meet in the fastest state meet time ever by a freshman.
This season Decker took it to another level.
Decker finished in the top three in each of his final four races capped by a third-place finish at the Class 4A state meet in a time of 15:10.1.
The state meet time for Decker was less than 10 seconds off the title time and was more than 44 seconds faster than his state meet time from 2023.
Prior to his third-place finish at state Decker placed third at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet, and runner-up at both the MVC Mississippi Divisional and Class 4A state qualifying meets.
Moustafa Tiea
Senior, West High
Tiea put an exclamation point on a strong career by running perhaps the best race of his career in his final race.
A four-time state qualifier, Tiea earned his first career state medal in his fourth trip to Fort Dodge finishing ninth in the Class 4A state meet.
The state medal capped another strong season for Tiea who finished in the top 10 in the MVC Super Meet, MVC Divisional Meet and Class 4A state qualifying meet for the third consecutive season.
Tiea placed seventh at the MVC Super Meet, was fifth at the MVC Mississippi Divisional and sixth at the Class 4A state qualifier.
Tiea improved his state placement each season going from 73rd as a freshman to 51st as a sophomore and 47th as a junior before jumping into the top 10 this season.
In his fourth trip to the state meet Tiea placed ninth in a career-best time of 15:38.3 taking more than 45 seconds off his previous career best time at the state meet.
Linus McRoberts
Junior, City High
After getting his feet wet at the varsity level last season as a sophomore McRoberts enjoyed a breakthrough season in which he emerged as the front of the pack leader for the Little Hawks.
McRoberts posted top-six finishes at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet and the Class 4A state qualifying meet in his breakthrough season that concluded with a top-40 finish at the Class 4A state meet.
McRoberts placed sixth at the MVC Super Meet, was 25th at the MVC Valley Divisional and finished runner-up at the Class 4A state qualifying meet.
In his state meet debut McRoberts finished 36th at the 4A state meet in a time of 16:14.6.
Brock Hilsman
Senior, Clear Creek Amana
A staple in the Clipper lineup since his freshman season Hilsman put the finishing touches on a stellar career with a strong senior season.
Hilsman helped Clear Creek Amana qualifying for the state meet as a team each of the past three seasons and finished in the top 32 at the 3A state meet in all three of his appearances in Fort Dodge.
In his four-year varsity career Hilsman finished in the top 15 at the WAMAC Conference meet four times including three top-10 finishes and finished in the top 16 at the 3A state qualifying meet four times with three top-10 finishes.
As a senior Hilsman finished a career-best fourth at the WAMAC Conference meet and was ninth at the Class 3A state qualifier.
Hilsman placed 32nd at the Class 3A state meet in a time of 16:47.6 to help Clear Creek Amana place 14th as a team.
Max McDowell
Junior, City High
Another junior in the City High lineup that stepped up this season McDowell had the best season of his career while helping the Little Hawks to a sixth-place team finish at the 4A state meet.
McDowell finished in the top 16 at each of his final three meets before putting an exclamation point on a strong season with a top-30 finish at the state meet.
In his second varsity season McDowell finished 16th at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet and 16th at the MVC Valley Divisional.
McDowell ran his best late in the season finishing fifth at the Class 4A state qualifying meet and was the top City High performer at the 4A state meet placing 30th in a time of 16:08.6.
Isaac Sorensen
Senior, Clear Creek Amana
If Hilsman was the leader of the pack for Clear Creek Amana this season Sorensen was right on his heels.
Like Hilsman, Sorensen was a key piece in three consecutive state tournament appearances for the Clippers and closed his carer with his best season.
In a strong senior season Sorensen placed in the top 10 at both the WAMAC Conference and Class 3A state qualifying meets for the first time in his career as a senior before placing 84th at the state meet in a time of 17:33.3.
Sorensen finished ninth at the WAMAC Conference meet and led Clear Creek Amana with a seventh-place finish at the Class 3A state qualifier.
Noah Gregoire
Senior, Liberty High
Gregoire quietly put together one of the best careers in Liberty High history capped by a career-best performance at the Class 4A state meet.
A four-time state qualifier, Gregoire finished in the top 40 in each of his final three appearances at the state meet.
Gregoire finished 21st at the Class 4A state meet in a time of 15:59 which was more than 16 seconds faster than his previous best time at the state meet.
Prior to the best state meet performance of his career Gregoire finished a career-best eighth at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet and was eighth at the MVC Mississippi Divisional to go with a 13th place finish at the 4A state qualifying meet.
George Karr
Senior, City High
While teammates McRoberts and McDowell had their breakthrough seasons as juniors Karr had the best season of his career in his final prep season.
Karr finished in the top 20 at each of his final three meets before placing 61st at the Class 4A state meet in a time of 16:30.3 to help City High to a sixth-place team finish.
Karr finished 11th at the Mississippi Valley Conference Super meet and was 17th at the MVC Valley Divisional before placing ninth at the 4A state qualifying meet.
