The Your Prep Sports Alumni Report is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level. Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts.
Emma Bock
Former Solon standout and current Texas Tech sophomore Emma Bock placed fourth in the 1,000 meter at the Corky Classic on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.
Bock clocked a personal best time of 2:55.12 while finishing fourth in the 1,000 on Saturday, taking seven seconds of her previous career best.
Texas Tech is ranked ninth in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings released on Monday.
Nick O’Connor
Clear Creek Amana graduate and current Iowa senior Nick O’Connor posted a pair of top-seven finishes at the Larrk Wieczorek Invitational last weekend in Iowa City.
O’Connor finished seventh in the 600 meter in a time of 1:19.7 and set a new personal best while finishing fourth in the 800 in a time of 1:52.33.
Iowa is ranked No. 17 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings released on Monday.
Luke Meyers
Liberty High graduate and current Northern Iowa sophomore Luke Meyers had a strong weekend posting career-best times in a pair of different events.
Meyers won the 60 meter at the Jack Jenett Invitational on Friday in Cedar Falls in a career-best time of 6.73. The time of 6.73 is the sixth-fastest time in Northern Iowa history.
On Saturday Meyers finished seventh in the 400 meter in a career-best time of 49.96 at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City and ran on the 4×400 relay team that finished fifth in 3:19.06.
