Wrestling Roundup: Phan Wins Title to Lead Clear Creek Amana at WAMAC Meet

Clear Creek Amana turned in one of the best conference meet performance in program history on Saturday at the WAMAC Conference meet in Independence.
Sophomore Kaden Phan became the 11th conference champion and second WAMAC champion in school history to headline a group of five top-three finishers as Clear Creek Amana finished sixth with 128 points.
Class 2A second-ranked West Delaware won the team title with 248.5 points while 2A sixth-ranked Mount Vernon was runner-up with 232.5 points.
Host Independence was third with 205.5 points followed by South Tama with 173.5 and Williamsburg was fifth with 173.
Solon finished seven with 115 points.
Phan (30-11) pinned his way to the 182-pound championship where he won a 1-0 decision over Jeryn Funke of West Delaware.
After becoming the first WAMAC champion in school history last season, sophomore Cale Nash reached the conference finals for the second consecutive season finishing runner-up at 113 pounds.
Class 3A No. 11 Nash (34-4) dropped a 4-0 decision to 2A sixth-ranked Braden Maury in the championship match.
Senior Beck Arant (30-10) finished runner-up at 145 pounds.
Arant won a 4-3 decision over ninth-ranked Independence senior Carter Straw in the semifinals before falling to 2A fifth-ranked Jackson Jaspers of Mount Vernon in the championship match.
Nolan Howell finished third at 126 pounds and Caden Baxter was third at 152 pounds for the Clippers.
Benjamin Haughey was fifth at 160 pounds and Carson Bromwell was sixth at 220 pounds.
Kade Kleinmeyer finished seventh at 106, Vinnie Keller was seventh at 285 and Jay Halverson was eighth at 132 pounds.
Solon had four wrestlers finish fourth as Jordan Schmidt was fourth at 132 pounds and Kyler Jensen was fourth at 170, Braydon Hoffman was fourth at 195 and Grant Wilson was fourth at 220 pounds.
Lawsin Sinnwell finished fifth at 126 and Kyler Jessup finished sixth at 120 and Teague Williams was sixth at 145.
Evan Burg was seventh at 113, David Karam was seventh at 152 and Joe Ebert was seventh at 285 and Zeb Kleinsmith was eighth at 182.
