Despite dropping its first game in more than a month Solon has moved up in the latest girls basketball rankings released on Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Spartans had a nine-game winning streak end with a loss to 4A second-ranked North Polk on Saturday but moved up to second in the Class 3A rankings this week behind only top-ranked and unbeaten Estherville Lincoln Central.

Solon (15-2) leads Benton Community, West Marshall and Des Moines Christian in the 3A top five.

In Class 5A Liberty High (9-6) moved up for the second consecutive week, climbing one spot to No. 11 while West High (11-5) dropped three spots to No. 13.

Clear Creek Amana and Regina each held their spots in this week’s rankings.

Regina (15-3) remained sixth in the Class 2A rankings while Clear Creek Amana (12-2) stayed at No. 7 in Class 4A.

Top-ranked teams in the rankings this week are Pleasant Valley in 5A, Dallas Center-Grimes in 4A, Estherville Lincoln Central in 3A, Dike-New Hartford in 2A and Algona Garrigan in Class 1A.
