In last season’s regional final Marion stormed back to win a five-set thriller over Solon on its way to a state tournament appearance.

The Spartans got a measure of revenge and a leg up in a tight WAMAC East Division race on Tuesday.

Class 3A third-ranked Solon held off a late charge from 4A fifth-ranked Marion to win a 26-25, 25-21, 21-25, 20-25, 16-14 thriller in a WAMAC East Division top-five showdown in Solon.

Sophomore Amelia Guinn led four Solon players with double digit kills with a team-high 16 as Solon improved to 24-4 on the season and moved to 3-0 in WAMAC East Division play with its third five-set divisional win.

CJ Whitford had 14 kills and freshman Zephie Bishop added 13 kills as Solon moved to the top of the WAMAC East Division standings.

Makinley Galvan added 11 kills for Solon while Addison Walter had nine kills and three blocks for the Spartans.

Harper Nicholson had three kills and five blocks and Macy Fuller had a team-high 15 digs for Solon.

Anabelle Boelkins and Kalynn Timmons each had 14 digs for Solon and Timmons added a pair of ace serves.

Scarlett Ferin had 37 assists and nine digs and Ava Hohn had 22 assists and nine digs.
