Gaarde, Harvey Headline List of Area IGCA All-State Selections

Grace Gaarde has made a name for herself in the high school soccer scene by scoring goals.
Sam Harvey earned a reputation as one of the best in the state at stopping goals.
On Monday both Harvey and Gaarde were honored for their respective areas of expertise on the soccer field.
Gaarde and Harvey each earned first-team all-state honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association when the organization released its postseason honors.
Harvey and Gaarde highlighted a list of seven Your Prep Sports area players to be named to the IGCA teams.
A senior goalkeeper, Harvey was named to the Class 2A first-team after helping Liberty High to an 8-10 record this season.
Harvey made 107 saves and allowed 11 goals in her third season as the Liberty High starter in goal and highlighted a list of four Lightning players to earn all-state honors.
Senior Grace Heddens, sophomore Maya Marquardt and freshman Rilyn Breinholt were all second-team selections in 2A.
Heddens led Liberty High with 24 goals and added five assists while Breinholt had 11 goals and a team-high 10 assists in her first varsity season.
Marquardt earned second-team all-state honors as a defender.
Gaarde was a first-team selection in Class 1A after leading Regina in goals for the second consecutive season.
The junior forward ranked sixth in Class 1A with 29 goals, helping the Regals to an 11-6 record and has scored 58 goals over the past two seasons.
Solon junior Morgan Link was a second-team pick in Class 1A as a midfielder.
Link led Solon in both goals (23) and assists (8) helping the Spartans to a 16-4 and a spot in the regional title game.
City High junior Claire Brown earned second-team honors in Class 3A as a forward after leading City High to a 12-4 record and a spot in the 3A regional title game.
Brown had a team-high 18 goals and added five assists in 14 matches for the Little Hawks.
