Baseball Roundup: No. 6 Clear Creek Amana Splits Doubleheader With Eighth-ranked Independence

Clear Creek Amana and Independence split a WAMAC West Division doubleheader between top-10 teams on Thursday in Independence.
Class 3A sixth-ranked Clear Creek Amana won the opener 4-2 and 3A eighth-ranked Independence won the nightcap 4-3.
Clear Creek Amana improved to 7-2 on the season and 6-2 in WAMAC play while Independence moved to 8-4 on the year and 8-2 in conference games.
Clear Creek Amana snapped a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning in the opener.
Sam Young pitched six strong innings to earn the win allowing two runs on nine hits and striking out six while Kaiden Phan worked a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.
Ben Swails went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Clippers while Blaine Stockman and Stirlen Roberson each had hits and drove in runs.
Parker Smith had a hit and scored two runs and Reece Hoffman and Jack Downes each had a hit and scored a run.
Independence pitchers Marcus Beatty and Jake Sidles combined to limit the Clippers to five hits in the second game.
Swails went 2-for-4 in game two to lead the Clippers.
