Eighth-ranked Davenport Assumption scored nine runs in the first inning on its way to a 16-6 five-inning win over Clear Creek Amana on Monday in a Class 3A, Substate 4 semifinal in Tiffin.
Davenport Assumption improved to 25-13 with the win and will face Central DeWitt in the Substate 4 title game on Wednesday in Muscatine.
Clear Creek Amana closed the season 16-17.
Parker Smith led off the game with a double and scored on a Sam Young single that gave Clear Creek Amana a 1-0 lead just two batters into the game.
Davenport Assumption responded with nine runs in the bottom of the first inning and built a 16-3 lead after three innings.
Smith went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Young was 1-or-2 with two RBI to lead Clear Creek Amana
Reece Hoffman went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, Stirlen Roberson went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Jack Downes had two hits for the Clippers.
Blaine Stockman scored a run and Cooper Hoffman had an RBI for Clear Creek Amana.
