For half a decade the Your Prep Sports area volleyball team has featured some of the best individual players in the state.
The 2020 edition of the annual Your Prep Sports squad is no exception.
This year’s seven-member Your Prep Sports squad features all-state and all-conference players, members of a state runner-up team and state tournament all-tournament team honorees.
Liberty High sophomore Cassidy Hartman is the 2020 team captain after leading the Lightning to a runner-up finish at the Class 5A state tournament.
Hartman was the first player in Liberty High history to be named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Elite All-state team after ranking fourth in Class 5A with 4.4 kills per set.
2020 Your Prep Sports Area Volleyball Team
Cassidy Hartman (Captain)
6-0, Sophomore, Liberty High
A force as a freshman last season Hartman emerged as a bona fide star as a sophomore while establishing herself as one of the top players in the state.
The 6-foot Hartman was named the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division player of the year and was an Elite all-state pick after ranking fourth in Class 5A with 4.4 kills per set and third with a .360 hitting efficiency.
Hartman led Liberty High in kills (339) and hitting efficiency and ace serves (34) and ranked second on the team with 223 digs as a six-rotation player while adding 32 blocks.
Calia Clubb
6-1, Junior, Clear Creek Amana
One of the most consistent players in Class 4A Clubb continued to build on what is already a stellar career resume with a strong junior season.
An Illinois State recruit, Clubb was a unanimous first-team all-WAMAC West Division selection for the second consecutive season and earned honorable mention all-state honors after leading the Clippers in kills for the third consecutive season.
Clubb had a team-high 243 kills and ranked second on the team with 226 digs and third with 28 ace serves while helping Clear Creek Amana to a 25-6 record.
Addie Schmierer
5-2, Senior, Liberty High
Among the top back row players in the state Schmierer was a key leader on and off the court for a Liberty High team program that finished as 5A runner-up in its second ever state tournament appearance.
A Drake recruit, Schmierer was a stalwart in the back row for the Lightning for the past four seasons collecting 1,120 career digs.
Schmierer was at her best as a senior leading Liberty High with 258 digs while earning second-team all-Mississippi Division honors in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
Hailey Hested
5-7, Senior, Liberty High
A four-year starter at setter Hested was at the center of the rapid ascension of the Liberty High program into a state power.
Hested handed out 1,898 career assists in four years directing the Liberty High offense at helped lead the Lightning to a combined 58-6 record and the first two state tournament appearances in school history over the past two seasons.
A Mount Mercy signee, Hested had her best season as a senior earning honorable mention all-state honors while leading the Lightning to a 24-3 record and Class 5A runner-up finish.
Hested had a team-high 476 assists and ranked fourth on the team with 143 digs to go with 22 ace serves.
Shelby Kimm
5-11, Soph., Liberty High
An explosive hitter Kimm backed up a strong freshman season with an exceptional sophomore campaign in which she was named to the MVC Mississippi Division first team and the Class 5A all-state second team.
Kimm teamed with Hartman to give Liberty High one of the best young hitting combinations in the state ranking second on the team with 194 kills while hitting .281.
Another versatile player in the Liberty High lineup, Kimm led the Lightning with 55 blocks and was fourth on the team with 24 ace serves.
Makayla Ribble
5-7, Jr., City High
Already a three-year starter at setter Ribble had the best season of her career to date as a junior ranking fourth in Class 5A with 9.7 assists per set.
A second-team MVC all-Mississippi Division selection Ribble had a team-high 551 assists, tied for the team lead with 17 blocks and added 55 kills while helping City High to a 7-11 record.
Ribble ranked second on the team with 180 digs and 26 ace serves.
Hailey Pollock
6-2, Sr., Clear Creek Amana
One of the most improved players in the state throughout her career Pollock grew into quite a force at the net during the course of her four-year varsity career.
Pollock punctuated her career with a stellar senior season that saw the 6-foot-2 middle earn first-team all-WAMAC West Division honors for the first time.
An intimidating blocker, Pollock led the Clippers with 79 blocks while ranking fourth in Class 4A with 1 block per set.
Pollock emerged as an offensive threat as well finishing second on the team with 221 kills while hitting a team-leading .342 and added 36 ace serves.
