Over the past two season Cassidy Hartman has helped the Liberty High volleyball team accomplish a lot of firsts.

The sophomore standout has added yet another first to that list.

Hartman became the first Liberty High player to earn player of the year honors from the Mississippi Valley Conference when she was named Mississippi Division athlete of the year on Wednesday.

Liberty High swept the top honors in the Mississippi Division as head coach Randy Dolson was named coach of the year after directing the Lightning to a 22-2 record that included an unblemished conference record and a second consecutive 5A state tournament appearance.

Hartman was a first-team all-division selection for the second consecutive season and was a unanimous first-team pick for the first time.

The 6-foot sophomore led the Mississippi Division and ranked fourth in Class 5A with 4.2 kills per set while leading the Lightning with 269 kills this season.

Hartman also ranked second on the team with 27 ace serves and was third with 27 blocks and 183 digs.

Sophomore Shelby Kimm and senior setter Hailey Hested joined Hartman on the Mississippi Division first team.

Kimm and Hested were both first-time, first-team honorees.

Hested led Liberty High with 394 assists and had 19 ace serves while Kimm ranked second on the team with 167 kills, led the Lightning with 49 blocks and ranked third with 23 ace serves.

Senior libero Addie Schmierer was a second-team selection while senior Lauren Roman and junior Sam Harvey were both honorable mention picks.

City High had three players honored in the Mississippi Division led by junior setter Makayla Ribble who was named to the second team.

Senior libero Maya Morales and senior Alia Vanderhoef were each honorable mention selections for the Little Hawks.

West High freshman Melae’ Lacy was a second-team pick in the Valley Division while junior libero Katherine Kouba and senior Rylie Baldes both earn honorable mention honors.
