The official start of the prep volleyball season is less than 48 hours away.
Teams have been practicing for more than two weeks in preparation for the 2020 season but things get real on Tuesday with the opening matches of the season for teams in the Your Prep Sports area.
Last week Your Prep Sports took a look at some of the top returning talent in the area with a list of six players to watch this season.
Today we highlight six more players that are poised to take a step up this season with breakthrough seasons.
As we wait for the start of the season here are six Your Prep Sports area players ready to break out in 2020.
Hailey Pollock
Senior, Clear Creek Amana
At first glance a three-year starter and returning all-conference player such as Pollock may not be the best selection for a breakthrough season.
After all the 6-foot-2 Pollock has been a stalwart in the middle for the Clippers for the past three season.
However, Pollock has showed steady progress each of the past three seasons raising her kill and block totals each year while amassing 627 career kills and 171 blocks.
Another year on that same upward trajectory would put Pollock in the conversation with the best in the WAMAC.
Sydney Woods
Junior, Liberty High
Another established varsity player ready to take her game to the next level, Woods has been a key part of Liberty High’s rise to Class 5A contender the past two seasons.
Woods has been a steady presence in the Liberty High lineup the past two seasons ranking in the top three in kills, digs and ace serves in each of her first two seasons.
The 5-foot-9 Woods posted 169 kills, 172 digs and 45 ace serves a year ago for a Liberty High team that went 34-3 and advanced to the 5A state tournament and should see those numbers climb this season.
Delaney Bombei
Sophomore, Solon
Bombei burst onto the scene last fall earning honorable mention all-WAMAC West Division honors after ranking in the top three on the team in both kills and blocks in her varsity debut.
With a season of experience under her belt Bombei should be in line for a big sophomore season as she takes on an even larger role in the Spartan attack.
The 6-foot Bombei ranked third on the team with 152 kills last season and was second with 48 blocks a year ago.
Makayla Ribble
Junior, City High
Ribble is a prime candidate for a breakthrough season after getting a full-time look at varsity action last season as a sophomore.
One of only four Little Hawks to play in every set a year ago, Ribble ranked in the top three in the team in assists (225), digs (194) and ace serves (23) a year ago.
City High will look for Ribble to take on a bigger role this season while also taking her leadership to another level as she becomes the leader of the City High attack.
McKenna Proud
Senior, West High
Proud returns to lead the West High attack after posting a team-best 120 kills last season as a junior.
The 5-foot-11 Proud also ranked second on the team with 53 blocks last season and should see both of those numbers rise with increased opportunities this season.
Delaynie Luneckas
Junior, West Branch
Luneckas showed what she could do last season when she ranked fourth on the team with 104 kills while ranking second on the West Branch roster in hitting efficiency.
With the loss of the Bears’ top hitter from a year ago Kaiya Luneckas to graduation, there should be even more swings for the younger Luneckas this season.
The 6-foot-1 Luneckas also provided problems for opponents defensively at the net, ranking second on the team a year ago with 72 blocks.
