Volleyball season is here. Almost here at least.
The opening matches for teams in the Your Prep Sports area are still a few weeks away but the season officially opened for teams across the state with the first day of practice on Monday.
Before matches get rolling later this month Your Prep Sports takes a look at some of the top area talent that can be found on courts this fall.
Here are six Your Prep Sports area players to watch this volleyball season.
Cassidy Hartmann
Sophomore, Liberty High
It didn’t take long for Hartmann to make an impact at the varsity level leading Liberty High in kills and earning first team Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division and Class 5A honorable mention all-state honors as a freshman last fall.
The 5-10 Hartmann had a team-high 242 kills while hitting .349 in her varsity debut season.
Hartmann was at her best on the biggest stage, leading Liberty High in kills in each of the Lightning’s regional matches and posting a team-high 29 kills in three postseason matches.
Calia Clubb
Junior, Clear Creek Amana
It has taken just years of her prep career for Clubb to established herself as a force in Class 4A.
Clubb has led Clear Creek Amana in kills in each of the past two seasons, hammering a combined 608 kills during her freshman and sophomore campaigns.
The 6-foot-1 hitter was an honorable mention all-state pick and a unanimous first-team all-WAMAC West Division selection last fall as a sophomore after posting career-highs in kills (351), ace serves (48) and digs (285).
Lexi Klinkkammer
Junior, West Branch
Klinkkammer followed up a strong debut season with a stellar sophomore campaign in which she posted career highs in kills, digs and ace serves.
A 5-foot-8 outside hitter, Klinkkammer ranked second on the team with 250 kills and 42 ace serves as a sophomore and added 173 digs and 27 blocks.
A member of the River Valley Conference South Division team last season Klinkkamer already has racked up 464 career kills.
Katherine Kouba
Junior, West High
Among the top back row specialists in the state Kouba has led West High in digs each of the past two seasons while collecting more than 600 digs.
Kouba led the Women of Troy with 289 digs as a freshman and is coming off the best season of her career after ranking fourth in the MVC Valley Division and 16th in Class 5A with 336 digs a year ago.
The 5-foot-6 Kouba was a second-team Valley Division pick last season after adding 12 ace serves.
Maya Morales
Senior, City High
In her first season at City High Morales had an immediate impact emerging as a stabilizing back row presence from her libero position.
Morales led City High with 322 digs and ranked third on the team with 22 ace serves on her way to earning second-team MVC Mississippi Division honors.
The 5-foot-6 Morales will look to take on an even bigger role for the Little Hawks this season with a year of Class 5A experience under her belt.
Hailey Hested
Senior, Liberty High
A four-year varsity starter Hested has spent her career helping to build the Liberty High program from the ground up.
The 5-foot-7 setter enters her senior season with three years of experience and more than 1,400 career assists.
Hested was an honorable mention MVC all-divisional selection last season for the second consecutive year after handing out 374 assists and adding a career-best 48 ace serves while leading Liberty High to the state tournament for the first time.
