Softball Roundup: Late Rallies Lead City High to Sweep of Cedar Rapids Xavier

Class 5A second-ranked City High used some late heroics twice on Tuesday to earn a doubleheader sweep of Cedar Rapids Xavier.
City High overcame one-run deficits with two-run seventh innings in both games sweeping the Saints 6-5 and 3-2 in a Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division doubleheader in Cedar Rapids.
Carey Koenig hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning of the nightcap as City High improved to 5-1 on the season while Cedar Rapids Xavier dropped to 3-5.
Ella Cook earned the win in the opener allowing two runs on four hits in three innings of relief.
Cook and Koenig each went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in the opener.
Ayana Lindsey and Sydney Fellows each had a hit and scored a run in the opener and Brooke Bormann had a hit and drove in a run while Makayla had a hit and drove in two.
Lindsey earned the win in game two allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out three.
Koenig drove in two while Elyse Rios went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Lindsey and Fellows each had a hit and scored a run.

Big Inning Dooms Regina in Loss to Wilton
Wilton used a big fifth inning to remain unbeaten with a 6-2 win over Regina on Tuesday in a River Valley Conference South Division contest in Iowa City.
The Beavers improved to 5-0 on the season and in RVC play with the win, scoring all six runs in the fifth inning to overcome an early two-run deficit.
Regina dropped to 3-4 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
Emma Sueppel had a hit and scored a run while Courtney Kessler, Emma Nibaur, Baylee O’Connor and Elly Gahan all had hits.
Annie Gahan scored a run for Regina.

Clippers Drop Two to Benton Community
Benton Community used a four-run seventh inning to earn an 8-6 win in game two to sweep Clear Creek Amana in a WAMAC West Division doubleheader on Tuesday in Oxford.
The Bobcats won the opener 1-0 and improved to 4-2 with the doubleheader sweep while Clear Creek Amana dropped to 5-3 on the season.
Katelyn Buscher tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Benton Community to a 1-0 win in the opener.
Ainsley Schrock had a hit and drew two walks and Bailey Oelrich had a single for Clear Creek Amana in game one.
Senior Raina Henze was the hard luck loser in the opener allowing one unearned run on four hits while striking out one in a complete game.
Clear Creek Amana led the nightcap 6-4 before Benton Community exploded for four runs in the seventh inning.
Gabrielle Bedford went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead Clear Creek Amana while Grace Bedford and Schrock each went 2-for-4 with a double.
Peyton Graft drove in a run and Grace Bedford scored twice in game two.
