A strong start to the season continued for Liberty High on Tuesday with its first doubleheader sweep.
Liberty High swept Class 4A eighth-ranked West High 5-4 and 8-1 in a Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division doubleheader on Tuesday in North Liberty.
The Lightning improved to 5-1 on the season with the sweep while West High dropped to 1-3.
Jacob Norris picked up the win for Liberty High in the opener allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out 10.
Cody Schroeder worked the final two innings to earn the save.
Tyler Dahm doubles three times, drove in a run and scored twice to lead Liberty High while Keian Secrist went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Sam Funke had a hit and drove in a run and Nolan Frey had a hit and scored a run for the Lightning.
Marcus Morgan and Ben Vander Leest led West High combining for five of the Trojans’ eight hits.
Morgan went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored while Vander Leest was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Ian McAreavy had a hit and drove in two runs while Will Hoeft and Mason Dains each had hits.
Vander Leest took the loss for West High allowing five runs, two earned, on 10 hits in a complete game.
Liberty High jumped to an 8-0 lead after three innings on its way to an 8-1 win in the nightcap.
Ethan O’Donnell earned the win allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four in six innings.
Isaac Bender had two hits and drove in a run while Funke had a hit and drove in two runs in the win. O’Donnell and Norris each had a hit and drove in a run.
Hoeft went 2-for-3 to lead West High while Brett Cherry added a hit for the Trojans.

Solon Hammers Tipton
Class 3A ninth-ranked Solon ran its winning streak to five with a 14-0 win over Tipton on Tuesday in a non-conference contest in Solon.
Solon improved to 5-1 with the win while Tipton dropped to 2-3 with the loss.
Lucas Walker struck out seven and allowed just one hit in three shutout innings to earn the win while Blake Timmons and Mathieux Rehnke each worked scoreless innings of relief.
Nolan Pattison went 2-for-2 with two RBI to lead Solon while Cade Chapman, Brayden Rickertson and Carson Shive all had hits and drove in runs for the Spartans.
