The Your Prep Sports Alumni News is a weekly segment that recognizes the accomplishments of graduates from YPS area schools that are continuing their careers as student athletes at the collegiate level.
Alumni News is a way for readers to keep tabs on former area standouts as well as honoring those athletes that continue to excel at the next level.
Courtney Joens
Former City High all-stater and current Illinois senior Courtney Joens led the Illini in scoring in back-to-back games last week averaging 15.5 points in meetings with Rutgers and Wisconsin.
In two games Joens made 8-of-11 field goal attempts and was 12-of-15 from the free throw line.
Joens had a team-high 15 points at Rutgers on Thursday scored a season-high 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and went 7-of-8 from the line and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds against Wisconsin on Sunday.
Jake Anderson
West High graduate Jake Anderson, a sophomore guard at Central College, posted the best performance of his collegiate career on Saturday exploding for 22 points at Wartburg.
Anderson had scored two points in six games this season before Saturday when he took advantage his extended playing time making all seven of his field goal attempts including a 5-of-5 performance from 3-point range.
The 5-foot-11 Anderson also grabbed two rebounds and had an assist in for the Dutch.
Micah Martin
The former City High big man scored a career-high 27 points to lead Augustana to a 94-93 win over Elmhurst on Wednesday.
A senior center for the Vikings, Martin went 8-of-11 from the floor and 11-of-18 from the free throw line on his way to a career-best scoring output.
The 6-foot-11 Martin is averaging 13.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocked shots per game this season for Augustana while shooting 62 percent from the floor.
Haley Mullinnix
West Branch graduate Haley Mullinnix, a junior guard at William Penn, matched her career high with 16 points in an 89-79 win over Evangel on Saturday.
Mullinnix added five rebounds and two assists to go with her 16 points on Saturday and had seven points and a career-best seven rebounds against Clarke on Wednesday.
