Baseball Roundup: Marion Sweeps Clear Creek Amana in WAMAC Doubleheader

Class 3A seventh-ranked Marion got a pair of strong pitching performances from seniors Rick Atkins and Austin Prier and swept Clear Creek Amana in a WAMAC doubleheader on Thursday in Marion.
Atkins tossed a four-hit shutout in a 5-0 win in the opener and Prier struck out nine in a complete game 4-2 win in the nightcap as Marion improved to 8-1 on the season and 6-0 in WAMAC play with its eighth consecutive win.
Clear Creek Amana dropped to 5-6 on the season and 3-5 in WAMAC play.
Atkins fanned nine and walked one in the opener as Clear Creek Amana managed just four hits off the senior lefty.
Brock Reade and Parker Smith each doubled and Cody Ogden and Ben Swails had singles for the Clippers.
Grant Jensen took the loss for Clear Creek Amana allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits in five innings.
Clear Creek Amana took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning of the nightcap but the Indians scored the final three runs in a 4-2 win.
Ogden had a hit and drove in a run and Jensen and Tyler Schrepfer each had a hit and scored a run for the Clippers.
Schrepfer took the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits in five innings.

Regina Wins Second Straight
Regina won its second consecutive River Valley Conference contest with a 10-2 win at Anamosa on Thursday in an RVC cross-divisional matchup
The Regals improved to 3-6 on the season and moved to 2-4 in RVC play with the win while Anamosa dropped to 6-8 on the year and 3-3 in RVC play.
Alex Meister earned the win for Regina allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven in 4 2/3 innings.
Meister also had a double and drove in two runs in the win.
Declan McCoy went 4-for-4 with a pair or RBI and Chase Becker had a triple, drove in two runs and scored twice for Regina.
Scotty Arendt had a hit, three stolen bases and scored three runs and Caden Smith drove in a run.
