Freshman Marcus Morgan tossed five strong innings to lift Class 4A second-ranked West High to a 7-2 win over Pleasant Valley in a non-conference matchup in Iowa City.
Morgan allowed two runs on two hits and fanned seven to earn the win as West High improved to 7-2 on the season.
West High overcame a 2-1 deficit with two runs in the fourth and broke the game open with a four-run fifth.
The Trojans managed just four hits on Wednesday but took advantage of six walks while putting up seven runs.
Alex Granner had a hit and drove in two runs while Lucas Karwal singled and drove in a run and Jason Strunk had an RBI.
Nick Biancuzzo doubled and scored a run and Braden Houston had a hit and scored a run for West High.
Pleasant Valley dropped to 4-3 with the loss.

City High Edges Bettendorf
City High defeated Bettendorf 2-1 in a pitchers’ duel on Wednesday in a non-conference contest at Mercer Park in Iowa City.
City High improved to 4-3 with the win while Bettedorf dropped to 1-4 with its fourth consecutive loss.
