Girls Basketball Roundup: Ashley Joens Scores 45 as Top-Ranked City High Rolls

Ashley Joens continues to rewrite the City High record books.
Joens broke her own single-game scoring record and set a new City High single-season record with 45 points in an 84-26 win over Waterloo East on Friday at City High.
Top-ranked City High improved to 18-0 on the season and 11 in Mississippi Valley Conference play with the win while Waterloo East dropped to 5-15 and 0-11.
The 45 points by Joens on Friday broke her previous record of 44 and are the most points scored in the state this season.
Joens now has 550 points this season, breaking the previous City High record of 519 held by Virginia Johnson.
Joens had 40 of her 45 points in the first half on Friday as City High built a 67-16 halftime lead.
Aubrey Joens added 14 points and Rose Nkumu had 12 for City High.
Big Second Half Stops Solon
Solon couldn’t hang on to a one-point halftime lead in a 56-46 loss at Maquoketa on Friday.
Maquoketa improved to 10-10 on the season and 5-8 in WAMAC East play while Solon dropped to 6-14 and 2-10 in WAMAC East play.
