VAN HORNE – The hurdles have long been the signature event for Clear Creek Amana sophomore standout Addilyn Scheetz.
Scheetz got her hurdle highlight on Thursday winning an individual title in the 100 hurdles at the WAMAC Conference meet.
However, the favorite win of the night for Scheetz came in her final event.
Scheetz capped a strong night by anchoring the Clippers to a title in the 4×100 relay in a meet-record time as Clear Creek Amana finished fourth in the team standings Thursday at Benton Community High School in Van Horn.
“Our 4×100 was a good end to the night,” Scheetz said. “That was my favorite thing tonight. It was so exciting.”
Behind a big night from Scheetz and a strong effort from its relay teams Clear Creek Amana finished fourth in the team standings with 76 points.
Mount Vernon won the team title with 153 followed by Williamsburg with 124 and West Delaware with 92.
Solon was fifth with 73.
“The girls were great,” Clear Creek Amana coach Ben Robison said. “We kept our expectations pretty low because we were really conservative with some girls tonight prepping them for next week. Had we gone full strength I think we score another 25-30 points so I am super pleased with where we are at.”
Scheetz shine in the hurdles on Thursday.
She won the 100 hurdles in a career-best time of 14.97 and anchored the Clippers to a runner-up finish in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:07.35.
“My open hurdles were very exciting,” Scheetz said. “It was good that I stayed at my best in an important meet like this.”
That was only half of the stellar night for Scheetz who helped the Clippers to a sixth-place finish in the sprint medley relay before anchoring the Clipper 4×100 team to a title.
The Clear Creek Amana 4×100 team of Anna Johnson, Thea Nelson, Elizabeth Timmerman and Scheetz set a WAMAC meet record with a time of 48.95 to edge Grinnell who was second in 49.05.
“It’s really hard to cut time in a 4×1 so it’s really impressive how much we’ve cut off,” Scheetz said. “It’s been a lot of us just working on our hand offs and we have a lot of good competition in the WAMAC so it’s really easy to push ourselves.”
Clear Creek Amana scored points in all seven relays, highlighted by five top-three finishes.
The Clippers were third in the distance medley, 4×200 and 4×400 to go with the 4×100 win and runner-up finish in the shuttle hurdle.
Nakia Tangang finished runner-up in the discus with a throw of 118-0 and teammate Turner Patrick was third with a mark of 115-0.
Freshman Alison Seidl added a runner-up finish in the 1,500 in 4:56.56.
“I am beyond happy with how I competed myself and our team,” Scheetz said. “It was a great meet for us.”
Solon was third in the 4×200 and Falyn Svalstad finished third in the 1,500 in 5:08.68.
