After finishing last season with a fourth-place finish at the Class 3A state cross country meet Solon will open this season ranked in the same spot.

Solon was fourth in Class 3A in the Iowa Association of Track Coaches preseason girls cross country rankings released on Monday.

The Spartans trail the same three teams that finished in front of them at the state meet lats season in the preseason rankings.

Defending 3A champion Pella is top-ranked while Mount Vernon-Lisbon is second and Sioux Center is ranked third.

City High opens the season ranked fifth in Class 4A after finishing eighth at the 4A state meet the past two seasons.

Johnston opens the season ranked number one followed by defending 4A champion Pleasant Valley, Waukee Northwest and Waukee.
