The big prize for the Regina cross country program came last month in the form of a Class 1A state title.
This week the rewards continue to roll in for the Regals.
Regina coach Chad Swope was named Class 1A boys state coach of the year on Monday by the Iowa Association of Track coaches when the organization announced its 2022 coaching awards.
Swope led Regina to the ninth state title in program history last month as Regina claimed the 1A crown by 24 points over runner-up ACGC.
The 1A title was the first state crown for Regina since 2010 and the fourth title for Swope as head coach.
Swope led Regina to titles in 2006, 2007 and 2010 and his four titles is one less than the five won by legendary Regina coach Bob Brown who led Regina to five state titles.
Solon coach Emy Williams was named one of the five at-large girls coaches of the year in Class 3A.
Williams led Solon to a second consecutive top-three finish at the 3A state meet as the Spartans finished third with 128 points, one point behind runner-up Ballard one year after winning the first title in program history.
