Baseball Roundup: Liberty High Splits MVC Doubleheader at Waterloo East

Liberty High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Waterloo East on Tuesday in Waterloo dropping the opener 3-2 and winning game two 16-1 in five innings.
The Lightning moved to 18-18 on the season and 12-18 in MVC play with the doubleheader split while Waterloo East is now 10-30 on the season and 3-27 in conference games.
Liberty High had just five hits in the opener with Ian Gates going 2-for-4 with a double and Jack Turgasen, Evan Chandler and Mason Gardner all adding hits.
Gardner and Luke Meyers each scored a run and Jack Funke had an RBI for the Lightning.
Liberty High its offense going in game two, breaking the game open with an eight-run second inning.
Luke Ramsey went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Lightning.
Meyers had a hit, drove in two runs and scored a run while Hayden Vickroy and Chandler each had a hit, scored a run and drove in two runs.
Luke Mayer had a hit, drove in a run and scored twice and Tyler Moores and Boyd Skelley each drove in two runs.
Trey Hughes earned the win for Liberty High allowing one run on two hits while striking out six in 3 2/3 innings.
Jacob Turgasen worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
