The 2022 Your Prep Sports Area Girls Soccer Team

The Your Prep Sports area has long been home to some of the best soccer in the state and this season was no exception.
The annual Your Prep Sports area girls soccer team honors some of the top players in the area for their performance this season.
This year’s team features players from all seven area teams and includes four repeat selections in Regina junior Grace Gaarde, City High junior Claire Brown, West High senior Jada Dachtler and Liberty High senior Grace Heddens.
The fifth edition of the Your Prep Sports area girls soccer team is filled with all-conference and all-state players, college recruits and rising stars.
Gaarde is the captain of the 2022 Your Prep Sports area team after scoring 29 goals and leading the Regals to an 11-6 record.

Junior, Regina
A year after bursting onto the scene with a stellar sophomore season Gaarde was even better as a junior ranking sixth in Class 1A with 29 goals.
The dynamic forward had a goal in 13 of 17 matches this season and scored multiple goals nine times.
In her prep career Gaarde has scored in 26 of 34 matches amassing 58 goals over the past two seasons.
Gaarde added four assists this season helping Regina to an 11-6 record on her way to earning first-team all-state honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Sam Harvey
Senior, Liberty High
A starter since her freshman season Harvey will leave Liberty High as one of the most decorated players in the short history of the program after establishing herself as one of the top keepers in the state.
Harvey made 107 saves and allowed just 11 goals this season on her way to being named MVC Mississippi Division keeper of the year and first team Class 2A all-state by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
In three varsity seasons Harvey made 380 saves and helped Liberty High to 26 wins.
Claire Brown
Junior, City High
One of the most dynamic players in the area Brown continued her torrid goal scoring pace in her second season of varsity action leading City High in goals for the second straight season.
Brown ranked 16th in Class 3A with 18 goals this season and has now scored 30 goals in 28 career matches.
The junior added five assists this season on her way to earning second-team Class 3A all-state honors from the IGCA.
Morgan Link
Junior, Solon
Link backed up a strong sophomore campaign with a stellar junior season, leading Solon in goals for the second year in a row.
A physical presence in the final third, Link has shown a propensity for find the net in her first two varsity season scoring 48 goals in 40 career matches.
Link ranked 19th in Class 1A this season with 23 goals and added eighth assists on her way to be being named a second-team all-state pick by the IGCA.
Grace Heddens
Senior, Liberty High
The top goal scorer in Liberty High history, Heddens capped a record-setting career with a stellar senior season.
Heddens led Liberty High in scoring for the third consecutive season, ranking 19th in Class 2A with 24 goals on her way to being named a second-team all-state selection by the IGCA.
Heddens had a career-high five assists as a senior and closes her career with 49 goals and 10 assists.
Madeline Shade
Senior, Clear Creek Amana
Shade was among the biggest breakthrough performers in the area this season emerging as one of the top scorers in the area.
A varsity contributor as a freshman, Shade had three goals and an assist in her first two varsity seasons before exploding in her role in the Clipper attack this spring.
Shade led Clear Creek Amana with 19 goals and added three assists as the Clippers returned to the Class 2A regional title game.
Rilyn Breinholt
Freshman, Liberty High
One of the top freshmen in the state Breinholt burst onto the scene with a hat trick in her varsity debut and never slowed down during an impressive freshman season.
Breinholt ranked second on the team with 11 goals and led Liberty High with 10 assists while helping the Lightning to an 8-10 record and a spot in the Class 2A substate semifinals.
The 11 goals for Breinholt are the most in school history for a freshman and ranked eighth in Class 2A among freshmen this season.
Morgan Turner
Senior, City High
A four-year varsity starter Turner capped her career with her best season as a prep.
Turner scored a career-high 10 goals and tied for the team lead with seven assists while helping City High to a 12-4 record and a berth in the Class 3A regional title game.
A stalwart in the City High lineup since her freshman season Turner finished her prep career with 19 goals and 13 assists.
Ava Bell
Sophomore, City High
Bell built on a solid debut season a year ago by emerging as one of the top threats in the City High attack as a sophomore.
The speedy attacker scored a career-high six goals and tied with Turner for the team lead with seven assists on her way to earning Mississippi Valley Conference first team all-division honors.
Bell has eight goals and 10 assists in her first two varsity seasons.
Kenadee Showalter
Senior, West High
One of the top offensive threats in the state Showalter put the finishing touches on an outstanding prep career with a strong senior season.
Showalter scored a career-high 17 goals on her way to being named Mississippi Valley Conference all-Valley Division first team and helping West High to an 8-8 record.
The senior closed her career with 31 goals and six assists in three seasons.
Jada Dachtler
Senior, West High
An impactful player all over the field from her midfield spot Dachtler joined her teammate Showalter in closing her career with her best season as a prep.
Dachtler scored six goals and added three assists for the second consecutive season this spring and closed her career with 13 goals and seven assists.
Another first team Mississippi Valley Conference all-divisional pick for the Trojans Dachtler helped the Trojans to 29 wins over the past three seasons.
Gabby Knipper
Sophomore, Solon
Solon has posted two of the most successful season in recent memory the last two years and the play of Knipper has been a big reason why.
Knipper has become a steady force for the Spartans in the midfield and is equally capable of impacting the game on offense or defense.
The sophomore midfielder ranked third on the team with seven goals and third with six assists as Solon posted its highest win total in more than a decade going 16-4 and advancing to the regional final.
Rose McAtee
Freshman, Solon
One of several freshmen to step into the Solon starting lineup this season McAtee provided some immediate scoring punch along side Link in the Spartan attack.
McAtee ranked second on the team in shots, shots on goal and goals with 12 while helping Solon to a 16-4 record and a berth in the Class 1A regional title game.
The freshman forward also had a pair of assists in her first varsity season.
Halle Bormann
Sophomore, Clear Creek Amana
Bormann was another breakout star for the Clippers this season following up a strong freshman season with another solid season.
After scoring eight goals and adding nine assists last season Bormann ranked second on the team with nine goals this year and tied for the team lead with five assists.
Bormann helped the Clippers to a 10-8 record and a spot in the Class 2A regional title game.
August Palmer
Freshman, West Branch
One of three freshmen on this year’s Your Prep Sports area team Palmer had an impressive debut season leading West Branch in scoring in her first varsity season.
Palmer led West Branch with seven goals and also posted team-highs in shots, shots on goal and total points while helping the Bears to a 6-9 record.
