After six consecutive wins to open the season including an upset of previously sixth-ranked Cascade the West Branch girls basketball team makes it season debut in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union rankings.

West Branch (6-0) is ninth in the most recent Class 2A rankings released on Thursday by the IGHSAU.

The Bears join River Valley Conference opponents West Liberty and Cascade in the rankings this week. West Liberty (6-1) is eighth in Class 3A while Cascade (5-1) dropped to No. 12 in Class 2A.

City High (4-0) climbed one spot to second in the Class 5A rankings following a win over previously second-ranked Waterloo West last Friday.

The Little Hawks trail top-ranked Johnston and are followed by Waterloo West, West High (5-0) and Ankeny Centennial in the Class 5A top five.

Other top-ranked teams this week include Glenwood (4A), Unity Christian (3A), Dike-New Hartford (2A) and Newell-Fonda (1A).
