Hall of Fame West High Wrestling Coach Mark Reiland Dies at Age 52

Long-time West High wrestling coach Mark Reiland died on Wednesday at the age of 52.
In nearly two decades as the head coach at West High Reiland turned the Trojans into one of the premier programs in the state
Reiland directed West High to seven state titles (five dual titles and two traditional state championships) and ranks 12th in state history with 436 career dual victories.
A member of the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame and National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Reiland won back-to-back state titles as a prep at Eagle Grove High School in 1986 and 1987.
He went on to become a two-time All-American at the University of Iowa under legendary head coach Dan Gable and won the 1991 NCAA title at 167 pounds.
Reiland began his coaching career at Solon where he led the Spartans from 1997 to 1999 before taking over at West High where he quickly built the Trojans into a dynasty.
West High won dual titles in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2011 under Reiland, the fourth most dual titles in state history.
Reiland won back-to-back Class 3A traditional team titles in 2006 and 2007 and finished runner-up five times under Reiland in 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
West High finished in the top four at the Class 3A state 12 times in 19 seasons under Reiland who stepped down as head coach in 2018.
Reiland coach 16 wrestlers to 26 state championships including one four-time and one three-time state champ.
West High won 10 Mississippi Valley Conference meet titles under Reiland.
