Before Trey Eagle could determine where he would play his college athletics the West Branch four-sport standout had to settle on a specific sport.
Eagle made both of those decisions on Sunday when he announced with a post on social media that he would play baseball at Frontier Community College next fall.
“After a lot of thought and help from my family, friends and coaches I am very excited to announce my commitment to further my academic and baseball career at Frontier Community College,” Eagle wrote on Twitter.
A breakthrough season from Eagle last summer helped West Branch post its highest win total in seven seasons while becoming one of the top stories in the state.
Eagle hit .405 with a team-high four home runs and drove in 33 runs as West Branch reached the Class 2A state tournament for the first time since 2012.
The 6-foot-4 right-hander went 5-0 with a 2.67 ERA and struck out a team-high 53 in 36 2/3 innings on his way to being named to the River Valley Conference Elite team as a junior.
Eagle had a walk-off two-run single that led the Bears to a substate final win over Camanche.
A four-sport athlete at West Branch, Eagle caught 41 passes for 859 yards and 13 touchdowns as a wide receiver last fall.
Eagle added 21 tackles and three interceptions helping West Branch to a 10-1 record and a spot in the Class 1A quarterfinals.
He averaged 7.3 points per game this winter for the West Branch basketball team that went 18-5 and won the RVC South Division title.
Frontier Community College is located in Fairfield, Illinois and was 13-9 this spring when the baseball season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
