Solon was on the wrong end of a five-set thriller on Tuesday against Western Dubuque.

The Spartans reversed the outcome in another five-set nail biter on Thursday edging Central DeWitt 19-25, 25-14, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 in a WAMAC East Division tilt in DeWitt.

Solon dropped back-to-back sets on Tuesday against Western Dubuque after taking a two sets to one lead, falling 15-12 in the fifth.

On Thursday the Spartans again led two sets to one but held off Central DeWitt (4-20) in the fifth set to improve to 15-10 on the season and 3-4 in WAMAC East division matches.

Grace Keith led Solon with 18 kills and 30 digs while freshman Lauren Schrock had 11 kills and three blocks.

Kate Benzing had nine kills and four blocks and Katie Yi had eight kills and three blocks.

Abby Smith added six kills while Taylor Moore had 29 digs and three ace serves.

Rachael Nelson had 36 assists, four kills and three ace serves for the Spartans.

Liberty Falls to Center Point-Urbana

Class 4A seventh-ranked Center Point-Urbana defeated Liberty High 25-14, 25-9, 25-15 on Thursday in North Liberty.

Liberty High dropped to 9-17 on the season while Center Point-Urbana improved to 24-7 on the season.
