Baseball Roundup: Schott Throws No-Hitter As Regina Sweeps Durant

Another game, another win, another dominant pitching performance from a Regina starter.
Ryan Schott joined the act on Monday with a no-hitter of Durant as Class 2A ninth-ranked Regina ran its winning streak to five with a sweep of a River Valley Conference South Division doubleheader in Durant.
Schott struck out 12 and walked two in the no-hitter as Regina won the opener 2-0.
The Regals added a 9-3 win in the nightcap to improve to 19-6 on the season and 11-1 in RVC play while Durant dropped to 13-7 and 9-7 in conference play.
Last week Regina got stellar starts from Ryne Schooley, Nick Brandt and Mitch Gahan.
On Monday it was Schott’s turn.
The junior right-hander retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced, a leadoff walk to Mason Compton in the sixth inning the only Durant baserunner in the final four innings.
Regina scored a run in the first when Jayden Kies led off with a single and scored on a Trent Hoogerwerf RBI ground out.
The Regals added a run in the second when Gahan singled and scored on a Hunter Liebermann RBI double. That was enough for Schott who improved to 4-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.33.
Kies went 2-for-3 with a run to lead Regina in the opener.
Schooley tossed five one-hit innings in the nightcap, striking out seven and walking five while earning the win.
Masen Miller was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Schooley was 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice.
Liebermann drove in two runs in the nightcap and Schott, Blake Berns and Gahan all had one RBI.

City High Splits With Dubuque Hempstead
Bryce Frantz tossed six strong innings in the opener to help City High split a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader with Dubuque Hempstead on Monday at Mercer Park in Iowa City.
Frantz allowed one unearned run on just one hit in a 5-2 City High win in the opener while Hempstead salvaged a split with a 9-1 win in the nightcap.
Class 4A fourth-ranked City High improved to 22-7 on the season and 15-4 in MVC play while Hempstead moved to 10-17 and 8-11 in conference play.
Frantz struck out five and didn’t walk a batter in the game one win, improving his season mark to 3-1.
Joey Schnoebelen and Dylan Deshler each went 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead City High in the opener.
Travis Reyhons had a hit and scored a run while Zach Stone had a double and an RBI and Brett McCleary drove in a run.
Quenton Max took the loss for City High in game two as Hempstead used a six-run second inning to build a 7-0 lead.
McCleary went 1-for-3 with a run and Cole Milder had two hits for the Little Hawks.
The loss was just the third in the last 21 games for City High.

Hallett Walk-off Homer Helps Clippers Sweep CPU
Tyler Hallett picked the perfect time to end the home run drought for Clear Creek Amana.
Hallett hit the Clippers’ first two homers of the season in Monday’s doubleheader opener against Center Point-Urbana, including a walk-off blast to lead off the 11th inning helping Clear Creek Amana to a sweep in Tiffin.
The second home run of the game by Hallett capped a wild 9-8 win for the Clippers in game while and Clear Creek Amana completed the sweep with a 10-2 win in the nightcap.
Clear Creek Amana improved to 9-17 on the season with the WAMAC Conference sweep while Center Point-Urbana dropped to 13-13.
Clear Creek Amana scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to stay alive in the opener and ended the game on Hallett’s home run leading off the 11th.
Hallett finished 3-for-5 with two home runs, a triple, two runs and two RBI.
Camden Smyka had three hits while Grant Riggan, Sam Stevens, TJ Bollers and Kobey Schlotman all had two hits in the game one win.
Cody Ogden tossed a three-hitter, striking out 11 in the nightcap as Clear Creek Amana completed the sweep.
Ogden allowed two unearned runs and one walked in the complete game victory.
Schlotman had two hits, two RBI and scored two runs to lead CCA in the nightcap while Ogden had a hit and drove in two runs.
David Jensen had a double and scored three runs while Hallett scored twice for the Clippers.

West High Takes Control Of Mississippi Division With Sweep at Dubuque Wahlert
West High still has a little way to go to clinch a conference champions but the Trojans put themselves in the drives seat of the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division on Monday.
Class 4A third-ranked West High swept 3A No. 9 Dubuque Wahlert in a Mississippi Division doubleheader at Petrakis Park in Dubuque on Monday winning the opener 13-3 in six innings and rallying for a 6-5 win in the night cap.
West High improved to 23-6 on the season and a Mississippi Division leading 15-5 in MVC games while Wahlert dropped to 17-11 and 11-7 in conference play.
The Trojans hammered out 18 hits in the opener, while scoring double digit runs for the fifth time in six games.
Nate Disterhoft went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBI to lead West High while Izaya Ono-Fullard was 3-for-5 with three RBI and Connor McCaffery had three hits and drove in two runs.
Tony Comellas, Jason Strunk and Dane Randall all had two hits while Strunk drove in two runs and Randall scored four times.
McCaffery picked up the win allowing three runs on three hits while striking out six and walking one in four innings.
West High scored four runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 4-2 deficit in the nightcap.
Strunk and Randall each had three hits in game two while Teagen Bell drove in two runs.
Connor Greer earned the win, working three innings of one-hit relief, striking out two without walking a batter.
