Baseball Roundup: Regina Outlasts Third-Ranked Cascade in 11 Innings

Ryne Schooley tossed seven no-hit innings and scored the go-ahead run as Class 2A No. 10 Regina outlasted third-ranked Cascade 1-0 in 11 innings on Monday in Cascade.
Schooley struck out 13 in seven innings and scored the game’s only run on a Nick Brandt RBI single in the 11th as Regina improved won the River Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup.
Regina improved to 15-6 on the season and 8-2 in RVC play with the win while Cascade dropped to 16-3 and 10-2 in conference play.
Joey Molony and Alex Meister each tossed two scoreless innings of relief for Regina while Meister earning the win.
The two teams combined for just seven hits in a classic pitchers’ duel.
Cascade starter Bryce Simon allowed just three hits while striking out five in eight innings.
Schooley drew a walk to lead off the 11th and following a sacrifice bunt, scored on an RBI single by Brandt.
Blake Berns and Ryan Schott had singles and Mitch Gahan had a double for Regina.

City High Stretches Win Streak To Nine
City High stretched its winning streak to nine but the magic for the Little Hawks on Monday was eight.
Class 4A fifth-ranked City High had an eight-run inning in both games in a sweep of Cedar Rapids Xavier on Monday in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Cedar Rapids.
City High used an eight-run seventh inning to rally for a 9-6 win in the opener and scored eight runs in the first inning of a 12-7 win in the nightcap while pushing its winning streak to nine straight.
The Little Hawks improved to 19-5 on the season and a Valley Division leading 12-2 in MVC play while Xavier fell to 8-14 on the season and 6-8 in conference play.
City High trailed 6-1 after six innings in the opener but sent 13 batters to the plate in an eight-run seventh inning.
Zach Stone, Joey Schnoebelen, Levi Pugh and Caleb Sass all had RBI singles in the eight-run inning that gave City High a 9-6 lead.
Schnoebelen went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run while Stone had a hit, an RBI and scored twice to lead City High.
Levi Pugh earned the win, striking out four in two innings of hitless relief.
Bryce Frantz started for City High allowing six runs, five earned on 10 hits while striking out four in five innings.
City High picked up where it left off in game two, sending 12 batters to the plate in an eight-run first inning that gave the Little Hawks a cushion they would never give up.
Brett McCleary, Dylan Deshler and Schnoebelen all had RBI singles in the first and Cole Milder had a two-run single.
Caleb Sass had the big blow, a three-run home run that made it 8-0.
Sass went 2-for-4 with three RBI while Travis Reyhons was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Pugh had two hits and scored twice and Zach Stone added a home run.
Quenton Max earned the win allowing three earned runs in 3 2/3 innings while Pugh picked up the save working two innings of scoreless relief.

West High Splits With Cedar Rapids Jefferson in Matchup of MVC Division Leaders
West High and Cedar Rapids Jefferson entered a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in Cedar Rapids tied atop the Mississippi Division standings.
The teams are still tied but now a game back of division leader Dubuque Wahlert.
Class 4A fourth-ranked West High and Jefferson split a doubleheader on Monday with West High winning the opener 10-1 and Jefferson taking game two 4-3.
West High moved to 17-6 on the season and 9-5 in MVC play and joins Jefferson (12-9, 9-5) one game behind current Mississippi Division leader Dubuque Wahlert (15-8, 10-4).
Connor McCaffery tossed a complete game four-hitter in the opener and Tony Comellas homered twice and drove in five runs to lead the West High to a 10-1 win.
Lucas Karwal was 3-for-4 and Izaya Ono-Fullard and Dane Randall each had two hits as West High rolled up 12 hits in the opener.
That was more than enough for McCaffery who struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in the complete game win.
West High managed just five hits in a 4-3 loss in game two.
Ono-Fullard had two hits while McCaffery had a double and two RBI and Comellas had a double and drove in a run.
Connor Greeer took the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits in four innings.
