Baseball Roundup: Solon Runs Win Streak to 9 With Sweep of South Tama

Solon capped an impressive week by pounding out 24 hits and scoring 21 runs in a sweep of South Tama in a WAMAC cross-divisional doubleheader on Friday in Tama.
The Spartans won the opener 9-1 and took the nightcap 12-5 to run their winning streak to nine straight.
Solon improved to 12-4 on the season and 10-2 in WAMAC play with the sweep that capped a 6-0 week that included conference sweeps of No. 3 Vinton-Shellsburg and No. 8 West Delaware.
Cam Miller picked up in the win in the opener allowing one run on three hits in six innings.
Miller struck out six and walked two while improving to 3-0 on the season.
Zach Wegmann led a 13-hit Solon attack going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Kendrick Harris, Nick Hofsommer and Luke Ira all had two hits as eight different Spartans had a hit in the opener.
Hoffsommer drove in four runs while Tyler Linderbaum and Ira each scored twice.
Ira went 3-for-4 with a double as Solon pounded out 11 more hits in the nightcap.
Harris was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in the game two win while Adam Bock and Hofsommer each drove in two runs.
Hofsommer earned the win, allow two unearned runs on one hit in three innings as five different Solon pitchers combined to allow four hits.

Clippers Split With Western Dubuque
Clear Creek Amana completed a busy week on Friday by splitting a WAMAC conference doubleheader with Western Dubuque in Tiffin.
The Clippers won the opener 6-3 and dropped the second game 5-0 to finish the week 4-2 in a trio of conference double dips.
Clear Creek Amana moved to 5-8 on the season and 5-5 in WAMAC play with the doubleheader split.
Kobey Schlotman logged his second complete game of the week to earn the win in the opener, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
Cody Ogden went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead Clear Creek Amana while David Jensen, Tyler Hallett and TJ Bollers all had two hits for the Clippers.
Bollers scored two runs while Hallett, Grant Riggan and Schlotman all drove in a run.
Clear Creek Amana mustered just two hits against Western Dubuque starter Sam Goodman in the nightcap, a single by Schotman and a double by Ogden.
Goodman struck out 13 and walked one in a two-hit shutout.
